The other day I was co-hosting with my wife at a party for her father's 87th birthday. I commented on the lovely Mexican dress of one elderly woman at the party. In less than 5 minutes, I learned: 1) That she had lived in Central and South America for over 20 years. 2) That she was fluent in Spanish until ... 3) She had a stroke and lost much of her vocabulary of both English and Spanish. 4) She was very frustrated by this development and it was compounded by ... 5) A general loss of hearing acuity. Not only did I learn some very interesting facts about this cheerful, delightful woman but I suspect I left an impression on her because I was genuinely interested in hearing her story. Charles,
